Eight people killed in avalanche in Tajikistan

ALMATY - At least eight people were killed in an avalanche in Tajikistan Wednesday night, according to news reaching here Thursday.

The avalanche near the Anzob mountain pass at 74 km north of capital Dushanbe buried several vehicles running along the road linking Dushanbe and the second largest city of Khodzhent, said Tajikistan emergency state committee spokeswoman Munira Nazarieva.

The exact number of people buried was still unknown, Nazarieva said, adding that rescuers were making all-out efforts to save lives and search victims.
