BERLIN: McDonald's says it will swap the traditional red backdrop for a deep hunter green to offset the Golden Arches across Germany to promote a more eco-friendly image.

McDonald's Germany spokesman Martin Nowicki says the change has already been rolled out in Great Britain and France as part of a European-wide initiative.

The Oak Brook, Illinois-based burger behemoth has 31,000 restaurants in 118 countries and has long been targeted by activists as environmentally unfriendly. It has made an effort in recent years to use "greener" practices.
