Updated: 2009-06-24 19:25 ISLAMABAD: As many as 12 people who were injured in the United States missile attacks in Pakistan's tribal area on Tuesday succumbed to injuries Wednesday, pushing the death toll up to 83, local TV channel reported.
The attack targeted the hideouts of Baitullah Mehsud, the chief of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, where an important commander Qari Hussain and Commander Sangeen are reported to have been killed. It is the second US drone attack in South Waziristan in one day. Earlier on the same day, six people were killed and several others injured when a US drone fired missiles at a house in a village of tehsil Ladha in South Waziristan. Pakistan's tribal areas bordering Afghanistan have witnesses suspected US drone attacks. The Pakistani government has repeatedly protested against the drone attacks, terming them "counter-productive" in the fight against terrorism. |
