Updated: 2008-07-25 09:34 MEXICO CITY -- Two people are reported killed and three others missing after Hurricane Dolly swept over Mexico, authorities said Thursday. One man was electrocuted in Mexico's northeastern state of Tamaulipas, while a fisherman was found dead on the coast of Yucatan, a peninsula in the east.
Eugenio Hernandez, governor of Tamaulipas's capital city Matamoros, said 111 of the city's districts were flooded and some 500,000 people had been affected. The rain stopped at midday Thursday and the electricity supply was expected to resume within 48 hours. Dolly hit Tamaulipas' coasts as a Category 2 hurricane, the second level on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale, and was later downgraded to a tropical storm with winds of 65-85 km per hour. |
