Updated: 2008-07-22 09:41 OTTAWA -- About 1,000 residents of a high rise building are homeless after an underground explosion rocked their property located in Canada's biggest city Toronto, reports reaching here said Monday. The building has been determined as unsafe after a hydro vault blew up Sunday night, completely destroying an electrical room, several walls and a number of parked cars. Nine firefighters and a resident suffered minor injuries, varying from burns to smoke inhalation. Authorities has banned residents from entering the building because of the lack of gas and water as well as some structural damage. An investigation is expected to take at least four weeks. Meanwhile some residents are staying with relatives and friends, while others are being accommodated in a nearby school. |
