JAKARTA -- Bank Indonesia Governor Burhanuddin Abdullah was detained Thursday following weeks of investigation into his graft allegation.

Abdullah was escorted from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)'s compound here to the National Police detention center.

Abdullah and two senior central bank officials are accused of disbursing 31.5 billion rupiah (US$3.4 million) several years ago from the bank's foundation to several legislators, allegedly aimed at having a new central bank law passed.

He was named a suspect in the mid of February but unlike two other suspects, his detention did not come immediately.
