BANGKOK - Violence continued on Sunday in Thailand's southernmost Pattani province after a car bomber killed two people and injured more than a dozen at the CS Pattani Hotel on Saturday night.
According to the Bangkok Post's webnews, a firefighter on Sunday was killed in an arson attack in Pattani's Sai Buri district while seven others were injured.
Meanwhile, insurgents burnt public phone booths and car tires, placed metal spikes on Road Route 42 in Pattani and blocked parts of the highway with fallen trees.
Several suspicious objects designed to heighten fear amongst locals and to create chaos for security officials were also placed across the province.
Just hours before, two bombs exploded Saturday night at the CS Pattani Hotel, killing two and injuring 16 others, including a journalist and the owner of the hotel.
Thailand's three southernmost provinces - Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani have been troubled with insurgency-related violence which has claimed more than 2,800 lives since it resumed in early 2004.
