MONTEVIDEO - A Norwegian cruise ship collided with a cargo vessel Monday in a Uruguayan port, according to the navy.

No one was reported injured in the incident.

The Norwegian ship, carrying some 1,700 passengers, was leaving the port in Montevideo when it collided with the cargo vessel, said the navy.

The cargo vessel suffered minor damage and at least five containers and several cars fell into the water, naval authorities said.

Maritime authorities temporarily closed the Montevideo port as a security precaution.

Two weeks ago, a Canadian-operated cruise ship sank after hitting sea ice below the southern tip of South America. All 154 passengers and crew were rescued.
