Islamic Hamas movement said on Monday it rejects the European Union observers' role in controlling the Palestinian passengers' movement at Rafah borders crossing between Gaza and Egypt.

"It is necessary to reopen Rafah borders crossing to let 6,000 stranded people to cross into Gaza," Hamas said in a leaflet sent to reporters. "We call on Egypt to turn the crossing into Egyptian- Palestinian crossing only."

Hamas also said in the leaflet that it rejects any Israeli control of the crossing, as well as rejecting the European Union representatives' controlling the free movement of the passengers at the crossing.

After Hamas movement militias took control of the Gaza Strip security headquarters on June 14, Israel has shut down all the border crossings, either between Gaza and Israel or between Gaza and Egypt.

At least 6,000 Palestinians, including women, children, students, patients and business, have been stuck at the Egyptian side of the borders for more than three weeks. Palestinians said that 14 patients died at Egypt side of the crossing.

Israel had offered to operate another border crossing called Kerem Shalom, just outside the southern Gaza Strip on the borders between Israel and Egypt to allow hundreds of Palestinians to cross into the Gaza Strip.

"Hamas movement rejects even the idea to operate Kerem Shalom crossing for people and goods movement because it is a crossing controlled by the Israeli occupation," said the leaflet.
