Algerian president to attend G8 summit in Germany(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-06-07 01:34 Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika leaves Thursday for the Germany city of Heiligendamm, to participate in the Group of Eight industrialized nations (G8) heads of state and government summit, which will also be attended by the five founding countries of New Partnerships for Africa's Development (NEPAD), according to a statement issued Wednesday by Algerian presidential office. Algeria is a co-founder of NEPAD, one of the most important and ambitious projects ever conceived for Africa. According to well informed sources, leaders attending the G8 summit in Germany are expected to notably debate on the issue of climate change. They are also expected to express a commitment to provide development aid to African countries. The G8 comprises of the eight world's most industrialized countries, namely: the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan and Canada. |
