ANSONIA, Conn. - A former Ansonia man has been charged with stealing tens of
thousands of dollars worth of electricity over a period of 14 years.
Michael Dellarocco, 49, who now lives in East Haven, was charged Tuesday with
first-degree larceny.
A spokesman for United Illuminating said Dellarocco diverted US$36,136 worth
of electricity to his home and garage.
Tracing the power line from the utility pole, authorities found a breaker
panel on the side of the house, where Dellarocco had allegedly tapped in ahead
of the electric meter, Al Carbone, the UI spokesman said.
The electricity from the breaker panel supplied power for heat and air
conditioning in the house, as well as a detached garage with many power tools,
according to police.
Dellarocco was freed after posting a US$25,000 bond.
