Activists get PM's ear from poster (Reuters) Updated: 2006-05-25 16:15 Hungary's ruling Socialists
rewarded those who worked the hardest to win a historic second consecutive term
in office with a piece of the prime minister's ear from a giant poster.
Socialist campaign director Viktor Szigetvary told Reuters 20-25 aides and
activists would get a framed piece from the Ferenc Gyurcsany poster, which
covered one side of an 18-storey building and prompted criticism that it echoed
giant posters of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.
Gyurcsany's left ear alone stretched over three storeys.
"It was central Europe's largest public advert at the time, which got a lot
of unjustified attacks ... and now the 20-25 people who had a direct role in the
management of the campaign get a framed piece of this canvas," Szigetvary said.
The Socialists in April became the first government in Hungary's since
communism ended in 1989 to hold onto power for a second consecutive term.
