More than 40,000 individual tickets for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai have been snatched up as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the event organizer.
The financial and business center began selling tickets to individuals Wednesday.
Tickets are being sold by China Mobile, China Telecom, Bank of Communications and China Post in over 2,790 outlets. People can also buy tickets online or by telephone.
Blue tickets for the fair's opening and closing dates from May 1 to 3 along with special dates, including October 1 to 7 (National Day holiday), are priced at 200 yuan (US$29.4). Yellow tickets for regular fair days cost 160 yuan (US$23.5).
The event, which lasts from May 1 to October 31 of next year, is expected to attract 70 million visitors, the organizer said.
