SW China landslide kills 1, buries 6

A landslide in Guizhou province on Saturday afternoon has left one villager dead and six others missing, local authorities said. Eight villagers were buried after the landslide hit Mawo Village near Bijie City at 12:50 pm, said an official with the publicity bureau of Bijie's Qixingguan District that administers the village. One villager has been pulled out alive while another was found dead, and six others remain buried, the official said, adding that an all-out rescue attempt is under way.

American tourist will face trial

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea said on Saturday a Korean-American tourist, Kenneth Bae, 44 , who has been held in prison since late last year, will face trial for "committing crimes" against the country, a move that could further stoke tensions with the United States.

Bangladesh

19 alive in collapsed building

Police in Bangladesh took into custody five people in connection with the collapse of a shoddily-constructed building that collapsed this week, as rescue workers pulled out 19 survivors out of the rubble on Saturday and vowed to continue as long as necessary to find others despite fading hopes. At least 340 people are known to have died.

Six more H7N9 cases reported

Six more cases of H7N9 bird flu were reported on Friday in the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Zhejiang. Health authorities in Fujian Province confirmed the province's first human case of H7N9 avian influenza.
