The annual Medieval Week on Visby, the largest city on Sweden's Gotland Island, continues through Aug 12 in a setting of medieval houses, churches and the ancient city wall. Though Elvis Presley has been gone for 35 years, his fans and lovers of rock 'n' roll will never forget his legend. From Aug 11 to 18, they will gather at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, for the annual celebration of Elvis Week. The human being is an ambitious species: We are bipeds, but we are always wanting to fly. Some will try to realize this dream in England's southern coastal town of Worthing at the two-day annual International Birdman Competition beginning on Aug 18. They will dress like super heroes, use various human-powered flying machines and pay homage to Leonardo da Vinci, who designed many such aircraft with his spectacular imagination. Catalan party

A three-day party beginning Aug 29 will bring great joy to the Catalonian town of Vilafranca del Penedes. The annual Festa Major will present crazed acrobats, including the famous human pyramid and parade, and reach its culmination when Saint Felix's statue enters the basilica and the sky is ablaze with fireworks.

Catch a big flat fish

The US city of Homer, Alaska, welcomes anglers with big dreams every summer, and the competition is already keen. Within hours of each other, three monster halibut were reeled in by anglers in the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby, the biggest weighing 300 pounds.The biggest flat fish caught between the derby's start and finish - May 15 - Sept. 15 - earns a $10,000 prize.
