A three-day party beginning Aug 29 will bring great joy to the Catalonian town of Vilafranca del Penedes. The annual Festa Major will present crazed acrobats, including the famous human pyramid and parade, and reach its culmination when Saint Felix's statue enters the basilica and the sky is ablaze with fireworks.

The US city of Homer, Alaska, welcomes anglers with big dreams every summer, and the competition is already keen. Within hours of each other, three monster halibut were reeled in by anglers in the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby, the biggest weighing 300 pounds.The biggest flat fish caught between the derby's start and finish - May 15 - Sept. 15 - earns a $10,000 prize.
