KIEV - Ukraine and Poland need 6,000 volunteers for Euro 2012 soccer championship, the Tournament Director for Ukraine said Thursday.

"The volunteer is a real co-organizer of the tournament. Therefore, he should do everything possible to help Ukraine and Poland to hold the championship on the high level," Markian Lubkivsky said at the volunteer logo and volunteer program presentation ceremony in Kiev.

The Tournament Director for Ukraine stressed that the volunteers can apply on the UEFA official website from June 14 this year.

According to him, the volunteers should be reliable, have team spirit and meet the basic criteria of the UEFA rules. In particular, they must be at least 18 years old as of March 1, 2012 and speak fluent English.

Ukrainian heavyweight boxer Vitaly Klitschko has presented the logo for the volunteer movement of Euro 2012 during the ceremony.

"We hope that the volunteer movement in Ukraine will be picked up and we get a lot of people who will help to organize the Euro," he told the press.

Volunteers for Euro 2012 will be stationed at the airports, train stations, fan-zones and embassies to help soccer fans to find their way and to support them if they need any assistance.

The Euro 2012 finals will be jointly held by Ukraine and Poland from from 8 June to 1 July 2012.
