XI'AN - The annual Xi'an International Marathon will kick off on Nov 6 with the participation of 1,965 runners from 56 countries and regions.

Among the competitors are some 600 foreigners, said the organizers.

The Xi'an marathon will run along the walls surrounding the city in four categories of men's and women's 5-km events for both the Chinese and foreign entries, as well as the half marathon and the 13.7km circle run for both men and women.

In the coming two or three years, the annual event will develop into the full-length marathon, said He Changsheng, director of the Xi'an municipal sports bureau.

The Xi'an marathon has been running for 15 times since 1993, attracting more than 35,000 participants including some 6,000 foreigners from more than 50 countries and regions.
