Friendly game ends in chaos

The China men's basketball team's third warm-up match against Brazil on Tuesday turned into a melee after less than a minute as players exchanged kicks and punches.

Brazil withdrew from the match in Xuchang, Henan province, after the brawl, which left several players from both sides hurt.

The match was so physical that China head coach Bob Donewald Jr and the team's manager each received technical fouls after complaining to the referee 37 seconds into the game.

A fight soon broke out among the bench players and a second brawl ensued after several Brazil players made provocative gestures toward the Chinese team. Police intervened as Brazil left the stadium.

Iverson in talks to play in Turkey

Former NBA most valuable player Allen Iverson is in "serious talks" to play with a Turkish team.

Gary Moore, Iverson's personal manager, says there is strong interest in both sides to work out a deal that would send the 11-time all-star overseas. Iverson is negotiating with Besiktas Cola Turka for at least a one-year deal.

"This team seems very interested in having him come play," Moore said by phone. "Allen absolutely wants to play basketball. He has no hesitation going there if that's the best opportunity for him."

Korea's first GP gets go-ahead

Motor racing's world governing body gave the go-ahead on Tuesday for South Korea's first Formula One Grand Prix later this month, organizers said, after doubts over the readiness of the circuit.

The track passed a final inspection from the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) said in a statement.

It earned a top grade at the inspection led by FIA technical director Charlie Whiting on Monday, KAVO said.

The green light came less than two weeks before the race is scheduled to get under way at Yeongam, 320 kilometers (200 miles) south of Seoul.

Late collapse carries Uruguay

Just as it did four days earlier in Indonesia, Uruguay saved its best for last.

The World Cup semifinalist used a late flurry of goals to beat China 4-0 in Wuhan on Tuesday. All four goals came in the final 20 minutes.

Uruguay went in front when Feng Xiaoting redirected a Luis Suarez shot into his own goal. Edinson Cavani, who like Suarez had a hat-trick in Uruguay's 7-1 win in Jakarta on Friday, doubled the advantage by lashing the ball home from 20 meters.

Goals from Cristian Rodriguez and Sebastian Fernandez piled more misery on the host, which came into the match unbeaten in six of its past seven matches. Its only blemish was a 2-0 home defeat against Iran on Sept 3.

Huaiji to host World Cup event

The IFSC Climbing World Cup China will be held in Huaiji county of Zhaoqing in Guangdong province from Oct 28-30.

The event, organized by the International Federation of Sports Climbing, the Chinese Mountaineering Sports Administrative Center and the Huaiji People's Government, will attract about 100 climbers from 20 countries and regions. It is the first time a World Cup sports climbing event will be held in a county in China, though Huaiji, also known as the home of swallows, has hosted a number of national and international climbing events since 2004.
