International marathon along Yellow River to be held

YINCHUAN, China - The first international marathon along Yellow River is going to be held jointly in four cities in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on September 19.

"Marathon is one of the most popular sports in the world. We hold this event just to attract more and more sports fans and travelers from home and abroad come to Ningxia and enjoy this west region's beautiful sceneries," said the organizers.

Ningxia International Marathon will be staged all together in four cities along the Yellow River in Ningxia whereas Wuzhong city is designated as the main venue.

According to the organizers, Wuzhong section will be divided into competition category and non-competition category. Professional runners will take part in the men's and women's half marathon with a route of 21 kilometers. And amateur runners just need to run a route of 10 kilometers.

In the other three venues, only 3-kilometer health run will be staged.

Till now, the preparation work is well underway and the official website will soon go online to receive application.

The Yellow River flows through Ningxia 397 kilometers and Ningxia thus enjoys agricultural advantage by diverting water from the river.
