China outplay Cuba 82-59 in second game

WUHAN, Central China - China trounced Cuba 82-59 on Sunday in the second meeting of the Sino-Cuba Women's Basketball Challenge after a three-point victory two days ago.

Veteran Chen Nan scored 20 points for China, who was preparing for the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic from 23rd September and 3rd October, while Miao Lijie, another Chinese Olympian, added nine and eight assists in her 26 minutes of playing time.

Cuba came out with an aggressive defense that forced 10 turnovers by China in the first half and they won 17-14 to finish up 37-31 at halftime.

The host, however, fought back in the second half with a balanced attack led by Chen Nan and bench player Guan Xin, both netted 11 points, while guard Zhang Hanlan off the bench had 10.

The taller Chinese girls dominated the rebounds 30-21 where 19 of them from second half. China also nailed six three-pointers compared to Cuba's one from seven tries.

Islem Carbonell scored 17 points while Oyanaisis Gelis along with  Clenia Noblet netted 10 points each for Cuba.

China won the first game of the Sino-Cuba 73-70 on Friday in Xiaolan, Guangdong province. The two sides will meet again on Tuesday in Shenmu, Shanxi province.
