Germany's women showed they were the most dominant national football team in the world by winning their fifth straight European Championship title, a feat which included an overwhelming 6-2 win over England in the final. Over the same period they have also won the Women’s World Cup twice, in 2003 and 2007. Since the inception of the European Women’s Championship, Germany have been winners on seven occasions. In 2009 in the finals in Finland, Germany, under coach Silvia Neid, beat Norway, France and Iceland in the group stage to advance to the quarter-finals, where they won 2–1 against Italy. After trailing Norway at half-time in the semi-final, the German team fought back for a 3–1 victory. Birgit Prinz and Inka Grings both scored twice in the 6-2 final win over England.
