Two weightlifting world records broken at National Games

JINAN: Two world champions Wang Mingjuan and Yang Lian broke the weightlifting snatch world record of the women's 48kg division at the 11th Chinese National Games here on Saturday.

Wang Mingjuan, winner in the 2003 and 2005 world championships, lifted 99kg in her last snatch, bettering the world record by one kilogram. The 24-year-old also smashed the national record of the kind.

Then her teammate Yang Lian, also representing Hunan team, snatching 99kg, too.

The world record was created by the 25-year-old Yang in the world championships in 2006.

Though bettering weightlifting world records frequently happens in the Chinese National Games, the new results will not be accepted by the International Weightlifting Federation.
