China regains Asian women's basketball crown

CHENNAI, India - China powered past defending champions South Korea 91-71 to win gold for the 10th time in the women's Asian basketball championship on Thursday.

China, who finished fourth in the Olympics at home last year, were led to victory by Chen Nan who top scored with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Japan overcame Taiwan 72-57 in the match for the third place for the bronze medal.

The top three teams qualified for the world championship to be held in the Czech Republic in September-October next year.

China, silver medallists in 2007, dominated the rebounds and displayed better shooting percentage to take control of the match.

Ma Zengyu scored 16 points in the final.
