SHANGHAI - After a 13-month layoff due to injury, former 110 meters hurdles Olympic champion Liu Xiang of China is to make a comeback run at Shanghai IAAF Golden Grand Prix on Sunday, organisers announced on Friday.

Liu Xiang, who won the 110m hurdles title at the Athens Olympic Games, withdrew from the heat of the event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The 26-year-old Liu, also the 2007 world champion in men's 110 meters hurdles, just returned to training in July after a surgery on his right Achilles tendon last December.

Liu and coach Sun Haiping both hope the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix will help Liu improve as he prepares for the Asian Athletics Championships in November and the East Asian Games in December.
