The regatta embarks on its longest leg (12,300 nautical miles) this weekend and nobody is expecting an easy ride before the boats arrive in Brazil on March 20.

Walker said he fancies the team's chances despite the tough competition.

"It's going to be a strange leg, because currently we have four boats (including) the three fastest ones. So it's obviously going to be very difficult.

"We will also have two weeks in the southern ocean, which is going to be very hot sailing. I think our team is very good at that. Our team is quite good in downwind and strong wind. I think we have a chance to do well," he said.

That is, as long as things don't go awry.

"It's a long leg," he added. "We can't afford to have problems."
