Vasco looks to sign Carlos Alberto

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil's soccer club Vasco da Gama announced Saturday that its new target player for the 2009 season is former Botafogo midfiedler Carlos Alberto.

Alberto is playing for the German Bundesliga giant Werder Bremen. He is in negotiations on his liberation of contractual obligation.

Vasco da Gama has already made a set salary for Alberto and has been in constant contact with Alberto's agent.

Alberto left the Botafogo team before the 2008 season ended due to unpaid salary.
