NEW YORK - Hugh McCutcheon, coach of the Olympic gold medal winning men's volleyball team, has switched to the same role with the women's side.

U.S Volleyball said on Monday that New-Zealander McCutcheon had agreed to take charge of the women's team through the 2012 Olympics.

The women's team, who won silver medal in Beijing, were coached by former China international Lang Ping who decided not to seek a contract renewal.

McCutcheon's success in Beijing came after his father-in-law was killed and mother-in-law injured in a stabbing incident by a Chinese man who then committed suicide. The incident happened in Beijing on the first full day of the Games.

No replacement has yet been named for McCutcheon at the men's team.
