Local rider Stoner wins pole position at Australian MotoGP

CANBERRA -- Australia's Casey Stoner won the pole position for Sunday's Australian MotoGP in Saturday's qualifying.

Stoner, the last year's world champion clocked one minute 28.665 seconds in his Ducati, ahead of Yamaha's Spanish racer Jorge Lorenzo by 0.069 seconds.

Honda's Nicky Hayden was third fastest with 1:28.756.

Newly-crowned world champion Valentino Rossi crashed in his Yamaha and was 12th fastest overall with 1:30.014.
