Flyers beat Islanders to stay unbeaten at home(Agencies)
Updated: 2007-11-14 14:47 NEW YORK - The Philadelphia Flyers maintained their dominance on home ice with a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Monday. The Flyers have won all six home games this season and sit at the top of the Atlantic standings with am 11-6-0 record. Scottie Upshall scored twice for Philadelphia, getting goals in the first and second period, but the Islanders answered through Mike Sillinger and Chris Simon. Mike Richards scored the winner shorthanded. "Our line has been playing great," Upshall told reporters. "(Jeff) Carter did a great job by himself behind the net to knock the puck out front. I was fortunate on the opportunity to get a good shot off, and it went in." Richards got the winner with team mate Daniel Briere serving a two-minute penalty for hooking. The goal, at 3:24 of the third period, was Richards' 10th of the season and came off an assist by R.J. Umberger. Richards fired a shot into Islanders netminder Rick DiPietro's pads, and DiPietro lost the rebound. Richards controlled it and jammed the puck into the net for his third shorthanded goal of the season. Flyers netminder Martin Biron made 24 saves for the victory. |
