SHANGHAI - Cuba's Dayron Robles showed up world record holder Liu Xiang in the Chinese hurdler's hometown of Shanghai on Friday, snatching the 110 meters gold in 13.01 seconds.

Liu, the Olympic and world champion, fell behind after the second hurdle and could only manage a third-place finish in 13.21, in his last major race at home ahead of next year's Beijing Olympic Games. The United States' Anwar Moore was second in 13.20.

"I really didn't feel any pressure. I felt pretty relaxed," Liu said after the race.

Liu, the first Chinese to win gold in an Olympic sprint event, is a huge star at home and the 110 hurdles is expected to be among the marquee events at next year's Games. Friday's result shows Liu is far from an assured win.

American Wallace Spearmon took gold in the 100 meters with a time of 9.96, 0.06 seconds faster than world 100 and 200 champion Tyson Gay.

Veronica Campbell of Jamaica ran the women's 100 meters in 10.9 seconds to take gold, while American Michelle Perry won the 100 meter hurdles in 12.64.

The one-day Golden Grand Prix exhibition meet is part of China's Olympics preparations.
