Kenya suffers surprise defeat to Cameroon in women's volleyball(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-07-19 08:55 Kenya's women volleyball team, a favorite to win the gold at the ninth All Africa Games, suffered a surprise 1-3 loss to Cameroon on Wednesday in a major Group B match. The African giants simply failed to contain a determined Cameroon side going down 25-20, 18-25, 17-25 and 11-25. The embarrassing defeat put Kenya's women volleyball team, one of the strongest in Africa, on the brink of crashing out of the event at the group stage. Kenya was now trapped in a tricky position and must beat archrivals Egypt on Thursday and hope that Cameroon would do them a favor by beating Tunisia. Cameroon was the only unbeaten team in the group while Kenya and Tunisia were tied on second spot with three wins apiece and a loss. The top two teams from the pool will qualify for the semi-finals to be played on Saturday. |
