HANOI - Qatar coach Dzemaludin Musovic said on Thursday he had escaped a touchline ban after being sent off during his side's Asian Cup opener.

The Bosnian was ordered down the tunnel late in Qatar's 1-1 draw with holders Japan for protesting over a red card shown to key player Hussain Yaser.

"The AFC (Asian Football Confederation) didn't ban me," Musovic told Reuters. "They told me I am on the bench for the game."

Qatar play tournament co-hosts Vietnam in Hanoi later on Thursday.

AFC officials in Hanoi could not immediately confirm that Musovic had been let off for his outburst at Australian referee Matthew Breeze.

Former Manchester City player Yaser will miss Qatar's showdown with Vietnam after his dismissal for fouling Japan substitute Hideo Hashimoto.
