Chen Hong helps Indonesian win Superliga

JAKARTA - Chinese shuttler Chen Hong has played for the Surya Naga badminton club and helped the Indonesian club win the Super League badminton championships here over the weekend.

Surabaya-based Surya Naga beat Jaya Raya of Jakarta 3-2 in the men's team dramatic final.

Chen opened the scoring for Surya Naga by beating Kendrick Lee of Singapore 15-21, 21-18, 21-14.

Jaya Raya's Chandra Wijaya and Markis Kido levelled the tie 1-1 by beating compatriots Alvent Yulianto and veteran Tri Kusharjanto 21-14, 21-19.

Surya Naga retook the lead with Sony Dwi Kuncoro beating Ronald Susilo of Singapore 21-11, 13-21, 21-16. Jaya Raya again won the double match by Hendra Setiawan and Joko Riyadi to make the third men's singe match a decider.

Hong Kong shuttler Ng Wei finally ensured the trophy for Surya Naga, owned by the country's largets tobacco company Gudang Garam, with a rubber win of 20-22, 21-19, 21-19 over Taufik Hidayat Akbar.

"I had to win this match because Surya Naga is much stronger in the singles. I feel pleased that I could finally win the title for my team," Ng was quoted Mondya by English daily The Jakarta Post as saying.

The defeat was a double blow to top team Jaya Raya, which on Saturday also lost in women's team final to Jakarta rival Tangkas.
