Malaysia plans to send more Malaysian elite athletes to train in Yunnan Province, southwest China, officials from the Malaysian National Sports Council (MNSC) said here on Thursday.

The MNSC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Yunnan Province Sports Administration to train more Malaysian athletes at two highland training bases in the provincial capital of Kunming, MNSC Director-General Zolkples Embong said.

The two training bases were the China National Training Center and the Professional Sports and Physical Science College located at 1,800m above sea level at Haigen.

Zolkples said that the location and facilities of the two centers were impressive, and Malaysia's diving squad and gymnasts are undergoing training there.

He said that the MNSC would also send road race cyclists and long-distance runners for training there.
