Indonesian shuttlers ready to take Sudirman challenge(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-06-11 15:00 JAKARTA - The Indonesian squad camp has prepared for the opening match on Monday against South Korea at the Sudirman Cup mixed team badminton championship in Glasgow, Scotland. "All the players will be ready to face the challenge.. (it) is not an easy task but they will fight hard to win at least three matches," team manager Lutfi Hamid was quoted by English daily The Jakarta Post as saying. "South Korea usually fields one player for two events like women's doubles and mixed doubles. Their women's doubles are better than us, so they are likely to ask for the event to be played first." Lutfi said Indonesia would definitely field its strongest squad to face South Korea. "For the men's singles, it will definitely be Taufik (Hidayat) and we will not field one player to play in both the women's doubles and mixed doubles," he said. Indonesia won the coveted trophy in the first ever Sudirman Cup in 1989 in Jakarta. Since then, South Korea and China are the only countries to have won the Cup. South Korea won in 1991, 1993 and 2003, while China took the title in 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2005. |
