Malaysia's Lee needs ruthless streak - coach(Reuters)Updated: 2007-06-05 13:40 Fourth-ranked Lee had started to come good at the right time, the New Straits Times quoted Sidek as saying, but he had to develop a ruthless streak to succeed. "I have told Chong Wei to forget about being cautious against Chinese shuttlers and just become clinical," Sidek said.
"He should not hesitate when playing them and must be merciless." Lee will have the opportunity to lay down an early marker when Malaysia meets a full-strength Chinese team in the group stage of this month's Sudiram Cup mixed team tournament in Scotland. China have confirmed Lin, Chen Jin (world number two) and Bao Chunlai (number six) will compete in the men's singles. Lee, who beat Bao to win last month's Super Series event in Indonesia, will have the backing of home support when the World Championships take place in Kuala Lumpur in August. But he could inflict a psychological blow by beating the Chinese on their home turf in July, Sidek said. "I want him to target the China Open title as this will provide him the toughest challenge of playing his toughest rivals in their own backyard," he added. "A player must use every opportunity and the more Chong Wei plays China's shuttlers the better for him. "He must start pushing and become ruthless." |
