The 24th Asian Boxing Championship held the opening ceremony Monday evening in the wrestling palace of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

About 140 athletes from 20 countries and regions will compete for the 11 champions during the coming seven days. The officer of Mongolia's organizing committee said Mongolia had worked hard to prepare for the match and would ensure the match to be held successfully.

Eleven athletes from China arrived in Ulan Bator for the championships including Zou Shiming, who is the world champion of 2005.

Four Chinese boxers took part in the first day's match and three of them beat the opponents, but one named Hu Qing lost the match.

Since 1971, Mongolia has won 40 medals from the Asian Boxing Championships, but after 1997 Mongolia has not taken even one gold medal.
