Zagreb organizers accused of neglecting non-TV media(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-05-25 09:00
The organizers of the world table tennis championships have been accused of neglecting non-TV media by partitioning the court by half with a seven-meter-tall spectators stand. Reporters were stunned on Thursday to see the erection of the stand which blocks the view from one side to the other. On one side of the stand there are six tables on which the fourth round mixed doubles took place Thursday morning. The center court is on the other side. "It's nonsense," complained veteran Canadian reporter Chandra Madhosingh. "I have never seen such ridiculous thing." Madhosingh, who sits on the International Table Tennis Federation's media committee, said that no matter whose decision it is, it seems TV is more important than any other media. Gennaro Bozza, a veteran reporter with the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, said the erection of a stand in the middle of the court was "stupid". "Look, from this side, I can see only two tables. I can't see the other six," Bozza said. "People here only care about the TV, they don't care about us print media," he added. An ITTF official admitted the problem with the stand but said it would be gone tomorrow. "This side is the center court and the other side won't have any competition tomorrow," said ITTF media committee chairman Arne Madisen, pointing to the two-table side.
