Maciej Grzeskowiak, a journalist and sports manager, has been named the head of the Euro 2012 organizing staff, Polish Sports Minister Tomasz Lipiec announced on Monday.
Lipiec stressed Grzeskowiak's enormous experience in organizing large international sports events,Polish PAP news agency reported.
The minister said that Grzeskowiak's team faces a number of difficult tasks, including contacts with countries which have recently staged or will be staging in the near future such events.
"We want to take advantage of their experience to avoid mistakes made by organizers in the past,"PAP quoted Lipiec as saying.
Staff members will be primarily responsible for contacts with UEFA and cooperation with local committees.
The staff will be also responsible for the promotion and marketing.
Poland and Ukraine were chosen to co-host the European Championship soccer tournament in 2012 on April 18. They will co-host the soccer tournament for the first time in history.
