Argentine rally driver Castellanos dies in mid competition

Argentine rally driver Guillermo Castellanos, died on Sunday due to an accident in Sunday's Rio Gallegos Gran Turismo Rally, in the southern Argentine province of Santa Cruz.

The petrol tank in the Chevrolet he was driving exploded during the rally's final lap after he crashed into the car in front and lost control.

Although the fire was quickly put out, Castallanos, 40, suffered multiple injuries and died just after reaching the Regional Hospital.

His co-pilot suffered shoulder injuries and the other driver in the collision, Pedro Dandlen, suffered a broken right leg.

Castellanos, a resident of Buenos Aires neighborhood Nueve de Julio, graduated to the Gran Turismo from Gran Turismo Track, the minor competition that is presented alongside the main competition.
