Rocket sees off Liu 5-1(worldsnooker.com)Updated: 2007-03-28 09:09 Ronnie O'Sullivan rattled in two centuries as he stormed to a 5-1 win over Liu Chuang at the Honghe Industrial 2007 World Snooker China Open. The Rocket required just 86 minutes to get the better of China's 16-year-old Liu, who had impressed in a 5-4 defeat of Andy Hicks yesterday. Liu threatened a major upset when he took the first frame with a break of 46, but world No 3 O'Sullivan soon took command and runs of 47, 100, 49, 40 and 105 helped him to a last 16 tie against practice partner Ali Carter. "It's great to play in front of enthusiastic fans here and to show them what I can do," said the Chigwell cueman. "It would be fantastic to play Ding (Junhui) in the final here, that would be a dream match. "I'm playing attacking snooker and that keeps me excited. You can win the odd tournament by playing tactical snooker but I want to win a lot of titles. Otherwise I might as well go and work in Tesco. "Liu looks liks a good player, he potted some cracking long balls. He should follow Ding's example and go to live in England and practise with top players. That would help him a lot." O'Sullivan was questioned about the SAGA Insurance Masters final when he comforted a visibly upset Ding towards the end of a 10-3 triumph. "I just wanted to show a bit of human compassion," added the 31-year-old. "I like Ding and his family and when you see someone with tears in his eyes you want to help him. That was more important than any tournament." O'Sullivan ended his press conference by responding in the negative to a bizarre question from a Chinese journalist as to whether he had ever dreamt of becoming a milkman. Carter had a more trying test against Yu Delu but eventually pulled away from 3-3 to win 5-3. The Tiptree player managed a top break of just 27 in the first six frames but won the last two with a top run of 49. Matthew Stevens cruised to a 5-0 success against Xiao Guodong over with best efforts of 108 and 68. The Welshman now plays Marco Fu. |
