Indonesian bikers aim for victory at Asia championships(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-03-22 14:20
Four Indonesian motorcross bikers will compete in the first series of the 2007 FIM-UAM Asia Motorcross championships at Puerto Princesa City in the Philippines this weekend and targeted victory. "We set the target of winning titles at the championships," Indonesian Motosports Association Secretary-General Irawan Sucahyono was quoted Thursday by English daily The Jakarta Post as saying. "There will be cash bonuses for any biker who wins a title in the race," he added. However, he declined to say how much money would be involved. Hannu Malherbe of the Evalube team and Farhan Hendro of the Pertamina Enduro 4T team are debutantes in the race. Nineteen-year- old Hannu will compete in the 125-cc engine class with seniors Deni Orlando of Pertamina and Aldi Lazaroni of Evalube, while Farhan, 13, will race in the 85-cc class. "The circuit is a bit dusty. I have to be in the front line from the first turn to have a good result. The strongest rivals will be from Australia, Thailand and the host, the Philippines," said Deni, who will ride a Kawasaki. Bikers from Japan, China, China's Macao, New Zealand, India, Guam and Sri Lanka will also participate in the race. After Puerto Princessa, other series follow in Manila (April 28- 29), Guam (June 9-10) and Indonesia. The organizers are still deliberating the venue for the last series, which will be held on September 29-30.
