JAKARTA -- Former national featherweight boxer Rahman Kili-kili was found dead in his home in Indonesia's South Sumatra province with police saying he took his own life, a report said Friday.

Rahman's body was found by his aunt hanging in the kitchen doorway early Thursday. She immediately notified the nearby police post in the provincial capital of Palebang, reported the national newspaper The Jakarta Post.

"Yes, we confirm that Rahman Kili-kili killed himself," Palembang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Wakin Mardiwiyono was quoted as saying.

Rahman, 32, made his name in the 1990s when he fought numerous times as a professional as private television stations began organizing and broadcasting live boxing matches.

However, as more high-profile boxers like WBA featherweight champion Chris John and IBF mini-flyweight champion Muhammad Rachman began to emerge, Rahman saw his own career dwindle.

He battled depression and was jailed for drug use in 2001.

The boxer, who was trained by Chris Rotinsulu, had a lifetime professional record of six wins, three by KO, and two losses. His heyday was between 2001 and 2003, and he was the national featherweight junior champ in 2002.
