Lakers struggle yet again in Detroit

DETROIT - The Detroit Pistons maintained their home-court hoodoo over the Los Angeles Lakers with a 93-78 win on Thursday.

The Pistons' fifth straight win opened up a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference over Washington, while the Lakers lost their eighth consecutive game at The Palace at Auburn Hills.

"We have not played a good game on this floor in years," Lakers coach Phil Jackson told reporters. "It's all about match-ups, and they aren't good for us against Detroit."

The Pistons held a double-digit lead for most of the night, shooting 45 percent to just 38 percent for the Lakers.

Tayshaun Prince led the Pistons with 20 points, while Chris Webber added 18 points and 11 rebounds and Rasheed Wallace contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Detroit is 9-2 with former 76er Webber as a starter. He played a season-high 41 minutes on Thursday and picked up his third double-double since joining the team three weeks ago.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 18 points, but made just five of 13 shots and committed eight turnovers, one off his career high.

* Desmond Mason scored 24 points as the New Orleans Hornets beat the Milwaukee Bucks 109-101 in double overtime.

* Kevin Martin scored 29 points as the Sacramento Kings beat the Chicago Bulls 86-77.
