France grab 2nd gold at European figure skating championships(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-01-27 17:18 France claimed their second gold at the European figure skating championships here on Friday when veterans Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder took their first ice dancing title. Their victory came after Brian Joubert won his second men's title on Thursday. It was the first time since 1962 that France have won two golds at the Europeans when Alain Calmat won the men's title and Christiane and Jean-Paul Guhel the ice dancing crown in Geneva. Delobel and Schoenfelder took gold ahead of rising Russian stars Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin with world champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski of Bulgaria taking bronze after the free dance final. Wearing matching black catsuits they clinched victory with a fast-moving routine to Bonnie and Clyde. Delobel, 28, punched the air in delight after finally claiming gold on their ninth appearance at Europeans. The French scored 199.47 to finish just 0.31 points ahead of the Russians who gave a powerful performance to Borodin's Polovetsian Dances to finish first in the free skate. But after leading the previous two rounds - the compulsory and original dance - the French had enough of a margin to secure success. It was the first medal also for the Russians.
