DETROIT, Michigan - Ron Artest got a rude welcome on the court and from the fans upon his return to Detroit.

Artest was booed lustily by fans of the Detroit Pistons, who remember him from his tenure with the Indiana Pacers and the infamous 2004 brawl here when he waded into the stands to fight a fan he thought had hit him with a partially full plastic drink cup.

The Pistons treated Artest and his current teammates on the Sacramento Kings just as roughly in a 91-74 victory.

Artest was playing in Detroit for the first time since the November 19, 2004 fracas, which ended in a full-scale riot that became a huge black eye for the NBA.

With a history of erratic behavior, Artest was suspended for the rest of the season, missing 75 games. Artest later faced criminal charges but was sentenced to probation and community service.

He was traded to the Kings last season and did not play in Detroit at all.

Artest interacted with the crowd once, making a motion like he was throwing a ball toward the fans.

"When I had to do my community service, a couple friends that I met when I came to Detroit said, 'When you come into the game we're going to play catch,'" Artest said Saturday. "I couldn't really see them because they were all spread out. It felt like I had fans there, you know? I threw the ball and they threw it back.'"

Artest scored 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds and four assists and said he wasn't bothered by the jeering.

"I wasn't paying it no mind," he said.

Pistons coach Flip Saunders was more concerned with how his team would perform after a double overtime victory over Minnesota on Friday. As it turned out, he was delighted that they kept the momentum going.

"That's what we talked about before the game," Saunders said. "Let's start carrying over. When you start playing well and doing those things, let's not forget about it."

The game was lopsided enough to let Saunders keep his starters on the bench toward the end. Richard Hamilton (19 points) played a team-high 32:50 minutes, while Chris Webber (11 points, 10 rebounds) played just under 30 minutes. Tayshaun Prince scored 17 and Antonio McDyess came off the bench for 12 points and eight rebounds.
