Japanese Suzuki pockets women's figure skating trophy

TURIN, Italy - Japan's Akiko Suzuki faced little challenge to win the women's individual figure staking at the Winter Universiade here on Saturday.

Suzuki scored 148.24 points to beat Italian Valentina Marchei on 141.23 points.

Chinese Fang Dan placed third with 136.50 points, while the following pisitions of the top eight were swept by athletes from Far East.

Suzuki's victory concluded the figure skating events, with Japan pocketing both individuals while China and Italy split the other two gold medals.
