Malaysian key shuttlers win the qualifyign matches(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-01-17 09:11 Malaysia's key badminton players smoothly finished their fighting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday in the qualifying staging for the Proton Malaysia Open 2007. Malaysia's Asian Games men's doubles gold medallist Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong easily beat Russian pairs Vitalij Durkin and Alexandr Nikolaenko 21-10, 21-8 to qualify for the main draw matches which will start on Wednesday. Malaysia's former singles ace Wong Choong Hann, who had taken a long break after a tendon injury during the Thomas Cup Final in Tokyo last May, defeated Nicholas Kidd from England 21-9, 21-16. Malaysian doubles pairs Tan Bin Shen and Ong Soon Hock as well as Chew Choon Eng and Hong Chieng Hun also entered the next stage of match smoothly. In men's singles, several Malaysians also were qualified for the next matches of the Malaysian Open. No shuttlers from the Chinese mainland played in Tuesday's qualifying matches which included men's doubles, men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles. Chinese shuttlers will start their competitions on Wednesday in the Malaysia Open, wich will close on Jan. 21. |
