Ohuruogu doping appeal to be heard Thursday

British runner Christine Ohuruogu's appeal against the length of her ban for missing drugs tests is set to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in London on Thursday. The Commonwealth Games 400m champion is currently serving a one-year suspension imposed after she missed three out of competition tests during an 18-month period. Ohuruogu, 22, was provisionally suspended before last year's European Championships before being banned outright in September. Ohuruogu has threatened to quit athletics if the ban was upheld. That decision now rests with the CAS tribunal, who are due to meet for one day at a secret location in London before considering their decision. However, no rapid verdict is expected. "That is very unlikely. It normally takes two or three weeks, with members going away to consider the case in detail before making their decision," said CAS secretary-general Mattieu Reeb. A successful appeal would allow Ohuruogu to compete at the World Championships in Osaka, Japan, in August.
