Japan will dispatch a team of 111 athletes and 47 officials for the Winter Asian Games to be held in China's Jilin province later this month, local media reported late Thursday.

"We can probably manage about 10 to 15 gold medals," Chef de Mission Toshiaki Murasato was quoted as saying by Kyodo News. "It will be tough but we would like to make progress toward the

Vancouver Olympics in 2010."

Japan won 24 gold medals at the last Winter Asian Games in Aomori, northern Japan, in 2003.

Yuya Oikawa, men's speed skater, has been selected as the captain of the 158-member delegation and women's cross country skier Nobuko Fukuda is to carry the national flag.

Top players to participate in the Jan. 28-Feb. 4 event include women's figure skaters Yukari Nakano and Fumie Suguri and speed skaters Joji Kato and Tomomi Okazaki, the report said.
